Imagine this lad’s surprise when he found out that you actually aren’t supposed to solicit sex from 911 operators:

The phone rang again, and the defendant yelled, “I did it, I did it.” While the defendant exclaimed he is currently “trying to have sex with someone,” he would not say if he was masturbating on the line with the operator as he claimed.

[...]

Basso admits he has made obscene calls to 911 in the past, but he has never been caught because he uses a false name and address when calling. Basso was asked why he chose 911 to call, of all the numbers he could have called and he stated that he called 911 because he was out of minutes and 911 is free.

The Weekly Vice has it that Basso is also a really bad car thief, and he beats women, and he gets caught smoking the herbals sometimes. So maybe this here is the least of his concerns. Also, he seems never to have a job, and his sense of bewilderment at being arrested never wanes.

Gothamist reported earlier today on a the culmination of a two year report on practices within the State Liquor Authority. Basically the report concluded that the SLA is the most corrupt, poorly run, and generally inefficient government office, EVER. This makes a lot of sense. Among other factors, the report contends that a “lax internal culture” paved the way for the generally corrupt practices.

So let’s see–if you are auditing an organization that combines this with this, I don’t think I would need a full two years to put the pieces as to what’s going on here. In addition to a huge backlog of unresolved applications and a litany of complaints ranging from bribery to low morale, from where we sit, it seems pretty clear that these people are just simply drunk, all day long.

For example, when issuing citations, the SLA decided that fruit fly infestations are analogous to putting crap booze in a top shelf bottle, so they combined the offenses into one indiscernable category. Clearly these people are purists.

I do.

I’m going to learn how to brew kombucha without killing myself, infuse liquor, churn my own butter, DIY home recording and maybe even how to make balloon animals in a single day, at Brooklyn SkillShare:

The Brooklyn Skillshare is a community-based, community-led, and community-building learning event organized and taught by Brooklyn residents. It is a one-day event of learning, making, sharing and doing. A group of Brooklyn volunteers has been meeting since June to organize the first event, and all of the teachers are volunteers. Organizers are working to gather donations for food, drinks, and supplies to keep the event free, thereby broadening accessibility with the goal of being truly nonexclusive.

Seems right up our alley. Also, free food. We hope we can participate in next year’s event (assuming they’re looking for someone to teach others how to drivel on the internet).
