About / FAQ

UPDATE (10/20/09):

We’ve more or less turned into one of those blogs that makes fun of the news and tee-vee and all of that sort of stuff. Or, as Glenn put it, “its really kind of a catchall”

Who is Todd P.?

Todd Patrick is an influential indie music promoter and “tastemaker” in New York City.

Find him here.

Do you hate Todd P.?

No. Probably not. As far as we know, no contributors to this blog know Todd P. We are, however, skeptical of his influence on youth/young adult culture in New York and beyond, and have created this blog as a mechanism toward a more inclusive definition of “cool”.

Todd P. says:

I don’t want to be the beginning and the end of where the music scene is in Brooklyn. Not that I could even claim that now but I don’t want that perception nor do I want that to be the truth.

We don’t doubt Todd’s sincerity here; however, to even conjecture such a thing brings the notion one step closer to reality. We regard with suspicion any person, group, corporation or other entity that claims, ostensibly or directly, to be an arbiter of taste (except for ourselves – and you, see more in submissions [link forthcoming]).

Then why this blog?

Cofounder and contributor Glenn puts it well:

Todd P must be approaching a level of renown too comfortable and well-known for the hipster elite. And when they finally vow to never see another Dan deacon show again after their 14 year old cousin from Ohio downloads Bromst, we will be there waiting for their ‘I’m feeling lucky’ on Google. And it will be then that the Hipster accepts our thesis, which is essentially that the very concept of finding the ‘next thing’ is passé in and of itself and accept instead hilarious montages and laid back event plans. And once the Hipster accepts this as suitable, we will be one step closer to our ultimate but completely unspoken end goal — total elimination of hipster hegemony.

So this is one of those stupid hipster-hate things?

It was supposed to be a joke, but if that’s how you see it, sure. No pop movement, genre or subculture – if you will – can or should claim creative, artistic or intellectual supremacy over another. So back off you fucking hipsters.

Wait why the blog again?

To seek out events and media that cut across “subcultural” borders; to post funny shit online.

Can I submit?

Yes, please. Surely we’ll have some kind of mechanized way to do that, someday. For now, e-mail us.
