Gothamist reported earlier today on a the culmination of a two year report on practices within the State Liquor Authority. Basically the report concluded that the SLA is the most corrupt, poorly run, and generally inefficient government office, EVER. This makes a lot of sense. Among other factors, the report contends that a “lax internal culture” paved the way for the generally corrupt practices.
So let’s see–if you are auditing an organization that combines this with this, I don’t think I would need a full two years to put the pieces as to what’s going on here. In addition to a huge backlog of unresolved applications and a litany of complaints ranging from bribery to low morale, from where we sit, it seems pretty clear that these people are just simply drunk, all day long.
For example, when issuing citations, the SLA decided that fruit fly infestations are analogous to putting crap booze in a top shelf bottle, so they combined the offenses into one indiscernable category. Clearly these people are purists.
Report: SLA Drunk on Power, SoCo
